Where pci_reset_bus() users are triggering unlocked secondary bus resets.
Ironically pci_bus_reset(), several calls down from pci_reset_bus(), uses
pci_bus_lock() before issuing the reset which locks everything *but* the
bridge itself.
For the same motivation as adding:
bridge = pci_upstream_bridge(dev);
if (bridge)
pci_dev_lock(bridge);
to pci_reset_function() for the "bus" and "cxl_bus" reset cases, add
pci_dev_lock() for @bus->self to pci_bus_lock().

PCI/PM: Avoid D3cold for HP Pavilion 17 PC/1972 PCIe Ports
[ Upstream commit 256df20c590bf0e4d63ac69330cf23faddac3e08 ] Hewlett-Packard HP Pavilion 17 Notebook PC/1972 is an Intel Ivy Bridge system with a muxless AMD Radeon dGPU. Attempting to use the dGPU fails with the following sequence: ACPI Error: Aborting method \AMD3._ON due to previous error (AE_AML_LOOP_TIMEOUT) (20230628/psparse-529) radeon 0000:01:00.0: not ready 1023ms after resume; waiting radeon 0000:01:00.0: not ready 2047ms after resume; waiting radeon 0000:01:00.0: not ready 4095ms after resume; waiting radeon 0000:01:00.0: not ready 8191ms after resume; waiting radeon 0000:01:00.0: not ready 16383ms after resume; waiting radeon 0000:01:00.0: not ready 32767ms after resume; waiting radeon 0000:01:00.0: not ready 65535ms after resume; giving up radeon 0000:01:00.0: Unable to change power state from D3cold to D0, device inaccessible The issue is that the Root Port the dGPU is connected to can't handle the transition from D3cold to D0 so the dGPU can't properly exit runtime PM. The existing logic in pci_bridge_d3_possible() checks for systems that are newer than 2015 to decide that D3 is safe. This would nominally work for an Ivy Bridge system (which was discontinued in 2015), but this system appears to have continued to receive BIOS updates until 2017 and so this existing logic doesn't appropriately capture it. Add the system to bridge_d3_blacklist to prevent D3cold from being used. PCI: Decode PCIe 32 GT/s link speed
[ Upstream commit de76cda215d56256ffcda7ffa538b70f9fb301a7 ] PCIe r5.0, sec 7.5.3.18, defines a new 32.0 GT/s bit in the Supported Link Speeds Vector of Link Capabilities 2. Decode this new speed. This does not affect the speed of the link, which should be negotiated automatically by the hardware; it only adds decoding when showing the speed to the user. Previously, reading the speed of a link operating at this speed showed "Unknown speed" instead of "32.0 GT/s". PCI/PM: Avoid putting EloPOS E2/S2/H2 PCIe Ports in D3cold
commit 9e30fd26f43b89cb6b4e850a86caa2e50dedb454 upstream.
The quirk for Elo i2 introduced in commit 92597f97a40b ("PCI/PM: Avoid
putting Elo i2 PCIe Ports in D3cold") is also needed by EloPOS E2/S2/H2
which uses the same Continental Z2 board.
Change the quirk to match the board instead of system.

PCI: Fix pci_device_is_present() for VFs by checking PF
commit 98b04dd0b4577894520493d96bc4623387767445 upstream. pci_device_is_present() previously didn't work for VFs because it reads the Vendor and Device ID, which are 0xffff for VFs, which looks like they aren't present. Check the PF instead. PCI/PM: Fix bridge_d3_blacklist[] Elo i2 overwrite of Gigabyte X299
commit 12068bb346db5776d0ec9bb4cd073f8427a1ac92 upstream.
92597f97a40b ("PCI/PM: Avoid putting Elo i2 PCIe Ports in D3cold") omitted
braces around the new Elo i2 entry, so it overwrote the existing Gigabyte
X299 entry. Add the appropriate braces.

PCI: Avoid pci_dev_lock() AB/BA deadlock with sriov_numvfs_store()

The sysfs sriov_numvfs_store() path acquires the device lock before the
config space access lock:

Previously, pci_dev_lock() acquired the config space access lock before the
device lock:

device_lock # A (3) wait for device lock
Any path that uses pci_dev_lock(), e.g., pci_reset_function(), may
deadlock with sriov_numvfs_store() if the operations occur in the sequence
(1) (2) (3) (4).
Avoid the deadlock by reversing the order in pci_dev_lock() so it acquires
the device lock before the config space access lock, the same as the
sriov_numvfs_store() path.

PCI/PM: Avoid putting Elo i2 PCIe Ports in D3cold
commit 92597f97a40bf661bebceb92e26ff87c76d562d4 upstream.
If a Root Port on Elo i2 is put into D3cold and then back into D0, the
downstream device becomes permanently inaccessible, so add a bridge D3 DMI
quirk for that system.
This was exposed by 14858dcc3b35 ("PCI: Use pci_update_current_state() in
pci_enable_device_flags()"), but before that commit the Root Port in
question had never been put into D3cold for real due to a mismatch between
its power state retrieved from the PCI_PM_CTRL register (which was
accessible even though the platform firmware indicated that the port was in
D3cold) and the state of an ACPI power resource involved in its power
management.

PCI: Use pci_update_current_state() in pci_enable_device_flags()

Updating the current_state field of struct pci_dev the way it is done
in pci_enable_device_flags() before calling do_pci_enable_device() may
not work. For example, if the given PCI device depends on an ACPI
power resource whose _STA method initially returns 0 ("off"), but the
config space of the PCI device is accessible and the power state
retrieved from the PCI_PM_CTRL register is D0, the current_state
field in the struct pci_dev representing that device will get out of
sync with the power.state of its ACPI companion object and that will
lead to power management issues going forward.
To avoid such issues, make pci_enable_device_flags() call
pci_update_current_state() which takes ACPI device power management
into account, if present, to retrieve the current power state of the
device.

PCI: PM: Enable PME if it can be signaled from D3cold

PME signaling is only enabled by __pci_enable_wake() if the target
device can signal PME from the given target power state (to avoid
pointless reconfiguration of the device), but if the hierarchy above
the device goes into D3cold, the device itself will end up in D3cold
too, so if it can signal PME from D3cold, it should be enabled to
do so in __pci_enable_wake().
[Note that if the device does not end up in D3cold and it cannot
signal PME from the original target power state, it will not signal
PME, so in that case the behavior does not change.]

PCI: PM: Avoid forcing PCI_D0 for wakeup reasons inconsistently

It is inconsistent to return PCI_D0 from pci_target_state() instead
of the original target state if 'wakeup' is true and the device
cannot signal PME from D0.
This only happens when the device cannot signal PME from the original
target state and any shallower power states (including D0) and that
case is effectively equivalent to the one in which PME singaling is
not supported at all. Since the original target state is returned in
the latter case, make the function do that in the former one too.

PCI: PM: Do not read power state in pci_enable_device_flags()

It should not be necessary to update the current_state field of
struct pci_dev in pci_enable_device_flags() before calling
do_pci_enable_device() for the device, because none of the
code between that point and the pci_set_power_state() call in
do_pci_enable_device() invoked later depends on it.
Moreover, doing that is actively harmful in some cases. For example,
if the given PCI device depends on an ACPI power resource whose _STA
method initially returns 0 ("off"), but the config space of the PCI
device is accessible and the power state retrieved from the
PCI_PM_CTRL register is D0, the current_state field in the struct
pci_dev representing that device will get out of sync with the
power.state of its ACPI companion object and that will lead to
power management issues going forward.
To avoid such issues it is better to leave the current_state value
as is until it is changed to PCI_D0 by do_pci_enable_device() as
appropriate. However, the power state of the device is not changed
to PCI_D0 if it is already enabled when pci_enable_device_flags()
gets called for it, so update its current_state in that case, but
use pci_update_current_state() covering platform PM too for that.

In case a PCI host driver's probe is deferred, the same I/O range may be
allocated again, and be ignored, causing a memory leak.
Fix this by (a) letting logic_pio_register_range() return -EEXIST if the
passed range already exists, so pci_register_io_range() will free it, and
by (b) making pci_register_io_range() not consider -EEXIST an error
condition.

The shift of 1 by align_order is evaluated using 32 bit arithmetic and the
result is assigned to a resource_size_t type variable that is a 64 bit

PCI: Fix "try" semantics of bus and slot reset

The commit referenced below introduced device locking around save and
restore of state for each device during a PCI bus "try" reset, making it
decidely non-"try" and prone to deadlock in the event that a device is
already locked. Restore __pci_reset_bus() and __pci_reset_slot() to their
advertised locking semantics by pushing the save and restore functions into
the branch where the entire tree is already locked. Extend the helper
function names with "_locked" and update the comment to reflect this
calling requirement.

PCI: PM: Fix pci_power_up()

There is an arbitrary difference between the system resume and
runtime resume code paths for PCI devices regarding the delay to
apply when switching the devices from D3cold to D0.
Namely, pci_restore_standard_config() used in the runtime resume
code path calls pci_set_power_state() which in turn invokes
__pci_start_power_transition() to power up the device through the
platform firmware and that function applies the transition delay
(as per PCI Express Base Specification Revision 2.0, Section 6.6.1).
However, pci_pm_default_resume_early() used in the system resume
code path calls pci_power_up() which doesn't apply the delay at
all and that causes issues to occur during resume from
suspend-to-idle on some systems where the delay is required.
Since there is no reason for that difference to exist, modify
pci_power_up() to follow pci_set_power_state() more closely and
invoke __pci_start_power_transition() from there to call the
platform firmware to power up the device (in case that's necessary).

PCI: Restore Resizable BAR size bits correctly for 1MB BARs

In a Resizable BAR Control Register, bits 13:8 control the size of the BAR.
The encoded values of these bits are as follows (see PCIe r5.0, sec
7.8.6.3):
Value BAR size
0 1 MB (2^20 bytes)
1 2 MB (2^21 bytes)
2 4 MB (2^22 bytes)
...
43 8 EB (2^63 bytes)
Previously we incorrectly set the BAR size bits for a 1 MB BAR to 0x1f
instead of 0, so devices that support that size, e.g., new megaraid_sas and
mpt3sas adapters, fail to initialize during resume from S3 sleep.
Correctly calculate the BAR size bits for Resizable BAR control registers.

PCI: Do not poll for PME if the device is in D3cold
commit 000dd5316e1c756a1c028f22e01d06a38249dd4d upstream.
PME polling does not take into account that a device that is directly
connected to the host bridge may go into D3cold as well. This leads to a
situation where the PME poll thread reads from a config space of a
device that is in D3cold and gets incorrect information because the
config space is not accessible.
Here is an example from Intel Ice Lake system where two PCIe root ports
are in D3cold (I've instrumented the kernel to log the PMCSR register
contents):

Since 0xffff is interpreted so that PME is pending, the root ports will
be runtime resumed. This repeats over and over again essentially
blocking all runtime power management.
Prevent this from happening by checking whether the device is in D3cold
before its PME status is read.

PCI: Fix issue with "pci=disable_acs_redir" parameter being ignored

In most cases, kmalloc() will not be available early in boot when
pci_setup() is called. Thus, the kstrdup() call that was added to fix the
__initdata bug with the disable_acs_redir parameter usually returns NULL,
so the parameter is discarded and has no effect.
To fix this, store the string that's in initdata until an initcall function
can allocate the memory appropriately. This way we don't need any
additional static memory.

Now, when a device is connected the BIOS SMI handler responsible for enumerating newly added devices is not able to find anything because the port is in D3. PCI: Fix __initdata issue with "pci=disable_acs_redir" parameter

The disable_acs_redir parameter stores a pointer to the string passed to
pci_setup(). However, the string passed to PCI setup is actually a
temporary copy allocated in static __initdata memory. After init, once the
memory is freed, it is no longer valid to reference this pointer.
This bug was noticed in v5.0-rc1 after a change in commit c5eb1190074c
("PCI / PM: Allow runtime PM without callback functions") caused
pci_disable_acs_redir() to be called during shutdown which manifested
as an unable to handle kernel paging request at:

It was also likely possible to trigger this bug when hotplugging PCI
devices.
To fix this, instead of storing a pointer, we use kstrdup() to copy the
disable_acs_redir_param to its own buffer which will never be freed.

PCI: Fix incorrect value returned from pcie_get_speed_cap()
commit f1f90e254e46e0a14220e4090041f68256fbe297 upstream. The macros PCI_EXP_LNKCAP_SLS_*GB are values, not bit masks. We must mask the register and compare it against them. This fixes errors like this: amdgpu: [powerplay] failed to send message 261 ret is 0 when a PCIe-v3 card is plugged into a PCIe-v1 slot, because the slot is being incorrectly reported as PCIe-v3 capable. |

PCI: Reprogram bridge prefetch registers on resume
On 38+ Intel-based ASUS products, the NVIDIA GPU becomes unusable after S3
suspend/resume. The affected products include multiple generations of
NVIDIA GPUs and Intel SoCs. After resume, nouveau logs many errors such
as:

[HUB/FE] reason 4a [] on channel -1 [007fa91000 unknown]
DRM: failed to idle channel 0 [DRM]
Similarly, the NVIDIA proprietary driver also fails after resume (black
screen, 100% CPU usage in Xorg process). We shipped a sample to NVIDIA for
diagnosis, and their response indicated that it's a problem with the parent
PCI bridge (on the Intel SoC), not the GPU.
Runtime suspend/resume works fine, only S3 suspend is affected.
We found a workaround: on resume, rewrite the Intel PCI bridge
'Prefetchable Base Upper 32 Bits' register (PCI_PREF_BASE_UPPER32). In the
cases that I checked, this register has value 0 and we just have to rewrite
that value.
Linux already saves and restores PCI config space during suspend/resume,
but this register was being skipped because upon resume, it already has
value 0 (the correct, pre-suspend value).
Intel appear to have previously acknowledged this behaviour and the
requirement to rewrite this register:

Based on that, rewrite the prefetch register values even when that appears
unnecessary.
We have confirmed this solution on all the affected models we have in-hands
(X542UQ, UX533FD, X530UN, V272UN).
Additionally, this solves an issue where r8169 MSI-X interrupts were broken
after S3 suspend/resume on ASUS X441UAR. This issue was recently worked
around in commit

PCI: Fix faulty logic in pci_reset_bus()
The pci_reset_bus() function calls pci_probe_reset_slot() to determine
whether to call the slot or bus reset. The check has faulty logic in that
it does not account for pci_probe_reset_slot() being able to return an
errno. Fix by only calling the slot reset when the function returns 0.
