kbuild: mkcompile_h: consider timestamp if KBUILD_BUILD_TIMESTAMP is set
[ Upstream commit a979522a1a88556e42a22ce61bccc58e304cb361 ] To avoid unnecessary recompilations, mkcompile_h does not regenerate compile.h if just the timestamp changed. Though, if KBUILD_BUILD_TIMESTAMP is set, an explicit timestamp for the build was requested, in which case we should not ignore it. If a user follows the documentation for reproducible builds [1] and defines KBUILD_BUILD_TIMESTAMP as the git commit timestamp, a clean build will have the correct timestamp. A subsequent cherry-pick (or amend) changes the commit timestamp and if an incremental build is done with a different KBUILD_BUILD_TIMESTAMP now, that new value is not taken into consideration. But it should for reproducibility. Hence, whenever KBUILD_BUILD_TIMESTAMP is explicitly set, do not ignore UTS_VERSION when making a decision about whether the regenerated version of compile.h should be moved into place. ANDROID: generate_initcall_order.pl: Use two dash long options for llvm-nm
Commit 96e9bc424475 ("[llvm-nm] Remove one-dash long options except
-arch") in LLVM removed the one dash long options, which causes this
script to fail and initcalls not to get ordered properly, which
manifests as kernels crashing durin boot.
Use the two dash long options as the LLVM commit mentions that the
documentation and help text have always shown them over the one dash
long versions. This is not an issue with the mainline LTO series as it
used two dash long options.

ANDROID: Add CONFIG_LLD_VERSION
CONFIG_LLD_VERSION was originally added in commit d5750cd3c548 ("kbuild:
Disable CONFIG_LD_ORPHAN_WARN for ld.lld 10.0.1"), which is not
applicable to 4.19. Additionally, lld-version.sh was eliminated and
combined into ld-version.sh in commit 02aff8592204 ("kbuild: check the
minimum linker version in Kconfig") and there was a follow up fix in
commit 1f09af062556 ("kbuild: Fix ld-version.sh script if LLD was built
with LLD_VENDOR"), which is a little large to take into
android-4.19-stable for the sake of fixing an LTO issue.
Add scripts/lld-version.sh but based on the upstream version of
ld-version.sh so that we benefit from the fixes but do not have to
backport a ton of patches just to get access to CONFIG_LLD_VERSION.

scripts: switch explicitly to Python 3

The reason is that in this case, the starting point will be set to -1 or n, which is then translated into (n - 1) (i.e., the last entry of the page) or 0 (i.e., the first entry of the page) and finally the search begins. This continues to work fine until the index reaches 0 or (n - 1), at which point it will be decremented to -1 or incremented to n, but not checked against the starting point right away. Instead, it's wrapped around to the bottom or top again, after which the starting point check occurs... and naturally fails. My original implementation added another check for -1 before wrapping the running index variable around, but Masahiro Yamada pointed out that the actual issue is that the comparison point (starting point) exceeds bounds (i.e., the [0,n-1] interval) in the first place and that, instead, the starting point should be fixed. This has the welcome side-effect of also fixing the case where the starting point was n while searching down, which also lead to an infinite loop. OTOH, this code is now essentially all his work. Amazingly, nobody seems to have been hit by this for 11 years - or at the very least nobody bothered to debug and fix this. vmlinux.lds.h: Create section for protection against instrumentation

Some code pathes, especially the low level entry code, must be protected against instrumentation for various reasons: - Low level entry code can be a fragile beast, especially on x86. - With NO_HZ_FULL RCU state needs to be established before using it. Having a dedicated section for such code allows to validate with tooling that no unsafe functions are invoked. Add the .noinstr.text section and the noinstr attribute to mark functions. noinstr implies notrace. Kprobes will gain a section check later. Provide also a set of markers: instrumentation_begin()/end() These are used to mark code inside a noinstr function which calls into regular instrumentable text section as safe. The instrumentation markers are only active when CONFIG_DEBUG_ENTRY is enabled as the end marker emits a NOP to prevent the compiler from merging the annotation points. This means the objtool verification requires a kernel compiled with this option. When building with -ffunction-sections, the compiler will place each
function into its own ELF section, prefixed with ".text". For example,
a simple test module with functions test_module_do_work() and
test_module_wq_func():

Adjust the recordmcount scripts to look for ".text" as a section name
prefix. This will ensure that those functions will be included in the

depmod: handle the case of /sbin/depmod without /sbin in PATH

Commit 436e980e2ed5 ("kbuild: don't hardcode depmod path") stopped
hard-coding the path of depmod, but in the process caused trouble for
distributions that had that /sbin location, but didn't have it in the
PATH (generally because /sbin is limited to the super-user path).
Work around it for now by just adding /sbin to the end of PATH in the
depmod.sh script.

$(error-if,...) is expanded to an empty string. Currently, it relies on
eval_clause() returning xstrdup("") when all attempts for expansion fail,

There is an unescaped left brace in a regex in OPEN_BRACE check. This
throws a runtime error when checkpatch is run with --fix flag and the
OPEN_BRACE check is executed.
Fix it by escaping the left brace.

This commit reduces the input that tr and sed need to consider to a few lines and so makes the extraction of ksyms faster. On my machine at least, builds are greatly slowed down by tr. UPSTREAM: scripts/tools-support-relr.sh: un-quote variables
When the CC variable contains quotes, e.g. when using
ccache (make CC="ccache <compiler>"), this script always
fails, so CONFIG_RELR is never enabled, even when the
toolchain supports this feature. Removing the /dev/null
redirect and invoking the script manually shows the issue:
$ CC='/usr/bin/ccache clang' ./scripts/tools-support-relr.sh
./scripts/tools-support-relr.sh: 7: ./scripts/tools-support-relr.sh: /usr/bin/ccache clang: not found
Fix this by un-quoting the variables.
Before:
$ make ARCH=arm64 CC='/usr/bin/ccache clang' LD=ld.lld \
NM=llvm-nm OBJCOPY=llvm-objcopy defconfig
$ grep RELR .config
CONFIG_ARCH_HAS_RELR=y
With this change:

scripts/setlocalversion: make git describe output more reliable
commit 548b8b5168c90c42e88f70fcf041b4ce0b8e7aa8 upstream. When building for an embedded target using Yocto, we're sometimes observing that the version string that gets built into vmlinux (and thus what uname -a reports) differs from the path under /lib/modules/ where modules get installed in the rootfs, but only in the length of the -gabc123def suffix. Hence modprobe always fails. The problem is that Yocto has the concept of "sstate" (shared state), which allows different developers/buildbots/etc. to share build artifacts, based on a hash of all the metadata that went into building that artifact - and that metadata includes all dependencies (e.g. the compiler used etc.). That normally works quite well; usually a clean build (without using any sstate cache) done by one developer ends up being binary identical to a build done on another host. However, one thing that can cause two developers to end up with different builds [and thus make one's vmlinux package incompatible with the other's kernel-dev package], which is not captured by the metadata hashing, is this `git describe`: The output of that can be affected by (1) git version: before 2.11 git defaulted to a minimum of 7, since 2.11 (git.git commit e6c587) the default is dynamic based on the number of objects in the repo (2) hence even if both run the same git version, the output can differ based on how many remotes are being tracked (or just lots of local development branches or plain old garbage) (3) and of course somebody could have a core.abbrev config setting in ~/.gitconfig So in order to avoid `uname -a` output relying on such random details of the build environment which are rather hard to ensure are consistent between developers and buildbots, make sure the abbreviated sha1 always consists of exactly 12 hex characters. That is consistent with the current rule for -stable patches, and is almost always enough to identify the head commit unambigously - in the few cases where it does not, the v5.4.3-00021- prefix would certainly nail it down. If you right-click the first row in the option tree, the pop-up menu
shows up, but if you right-click the second row or below, the event
is ignored due to the following check:
if (e->y() <= header()->geometry().bottom()) {
Perhaps, the intention was to show the pop-menu only when the tree
header was right-clicked, but this handler is not called in that case.
Since the origin of e->y() starts from the bottom of the header,
this check is odd.
Going forward, you can right-click anywhere in the tree to get the
pop-up menu.

scripts/gdb: fix lx-symbols 'gdb.error' while loading modules

Commit ed66f991bb19 ("module: Refactor section attr into bin attribute")
removed the 'name' field from 'struct module_sect_attr' triggering the
following error when invoking lx-symbols:

scanning for modules in linux/build
loading @0xffffffffc014f000: linux/build/drivers/net/tun.ko
Python Exception <class 'gdb.error'> There is no member named name.:
Error occurred in Python: There is no member named name.
This patch fixes the issue taking the module name from the 'struct
attribute'.

scripts/decode_stacktrace: strip basepath from all paths

Currently the basepath is removed only from the beginning of the string.
When the symbol is inlined and there's multiple line outputs of
addr2line, only the first line would have basepath removed.
Change to remove the basepath prefix from all lines.

ANDROID: update the kernel release format for GKI
The new kernel release format is: w.x.y-zz-k where, w.x.y are the current values zzz is the Android Release value k is the KMI Generation number This allows one to identify the kernel module interface version using `uname -r`. The KMI Generation number is used to identify any KMI changes that occur after the KMI freeze. This should only occur in an unlikely event that a security patch requires a KMI update. ANDROID: GKI: scripts: Makefile: update the lz4 command (#2)
When the command was switched over from 'lz4c' to 'lz4', it changed the meaning of '-c' in a subtle way. In the older lz4c tool, this '-cX' seems to be a different flag, meaning the compression level. In the newer lz4 tool, it means to compress to stdout. However, since kbuild already specifies stdout as a file name, '-c' is superfluous, and generates a warning: Warning : stdout won't be used ! Do you want multiple input files (-m) ? kbuild: improve cc-option to clean up all temporary files
[ Upstream commit f2f02ebd8f3833626642688b2d2c6a7b3c141fa9 ] When cc-option and friends evaluate compiler flags, the temporary file $$TMP is created as an output object, and automatically cleaned up. The actual file path of $$TMP is .<pid>.tmp, here <pid> is the process ID of $(shell ...) invoked from cc-option. (Please note $$$$ is the escape sequence of $$). Such garbage files are cleaned up in most cases, but some compiler flags create additional output files. For example, -gsplit-dwarf creates a .dwo file. When CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO_SPLIT=y, you will see a bunch of .<pid>.dwo files left in the top of build directories. You may not notice them unless you do 'ls -a', but the garbage files will increase every time you run 'make'. This commit changes the temporary object path to .tmp_<pid>/tmp, and removes .tmp_<pid> directory when exiting. Separate build artifacts such as *.dwo will be cleaned up all together because their file paths are usually determined based on the base name of the object. mksysmap: Fix the mismatch of '.L' symbols in System.map

When System.map was generated, the kernel used mksysmap to
filter the kernel symbols, but all the symbols with the
second letter 'L' in the kernel were filtered out, not just
the symbols starting with 'dot + L'.
For example:

The original intent should be to filter out all local symbols
starting with '.L', so the dot should be escaped.
