94a6159f61 modpost: remove incorrect code in do_eisa_entry()
[ Upstream commit 0c3e091319e4748cb36ac9a50848903dc6f54054 ]

This function contains multiple bugs after the following commits:

 - ac55182899 ("modpost: i2c aliases need no trailing wildcard")
 - 6543becf26 ("mod/file2alias: make modalias generation safe for cross compiling")

Commit ac55182899 inserted the following code to do_eisa_entry():

    else
            strcat(alias, "*");

This is incorrect because 'alias' is uninitialized. If it is not
NULL-terminated, strcat() could cause a buffer overrun.

Even if 'alias' happens to be zero-filled, it would output:

    MODULE_ALIAS("*");

This would match anything. As a result, the module could be loaded by
any unrelated uevent from an unrelated subsystem.

Commit ac55182899 introduced another bug.

Prior to that commit, the conditional check was:

    if (eisa->sig[0])

This checked if the first character of eisa_device_id::sig was not '\0'.

However, commit ac55182899 changed it as follows:

    if (sig[0])

sig[0] is NOT the first character of the eisa_device_id::sig. The
type of 'sig' is 'char (*)[8]', meaning that the type of 'sig[0]' is
'char [8]' instead of 'char'. 'sig[0]' and 'symval' refer to the same
address, which never becomes NULL.

The correct conversion would have been:

    if ((*sig)[0])

However, this if-conditional was meaningless because the earlier change
in commit ac551828993e was incorrect.

This commit removes the entire incorrect code, which should never have
been executed.

Fixes: 6543becf26 ("mod/file2alias: make modalias generation safe for cross compiling")

272ba9ebfb modpost: add missing else to the "of" check
[ Upstream commit cbc3d00cf88fda95dbcafee3b38655b7a8f2650a ]

Without this 'else' statement, an "usb" name goes into two handlers:
the first/previous 'if' statement _AND_ the for-loop over 'devtable',
but the latter is useless as it has no 'usb' device_id entry anyway.

Tested with allmodconfig before/after patch; no changes to *.mod.c:

    git checkout v6.6-rc3
    make -j$(nproc) allmodconfig
    make -j$(nproc) olddefconfig

    make -j$(nproc)
    find . -name '*.mod.c' | cpio -pd /tmp/before

    # apply patch

    make -j$(nproc)
    find . -name '*.mod.c' | cpio -pd /tmp/after

    diff -r /tmp/before/ /tmp/after/
    # no difference

71c6877759 modpost: fix section mismatch message for R_ARM_{PC24,CALL,JUMP24}
[ Upstream commit 56a24b8ce6a7f9c4a21b2276a8644f6f3d8fc14d ]

addend_arm_rel() processes R_ARM_PC24, R_ARM_CALL, R_ARM_JUMP24 in a
wrong way.

Here, test code.

[test code for R_ARM_JUMP24]

  .section .init.text,"ax"
  bar:
          bx      lr

  .section .text,"ax"
  .globl foo
  foo:
          b       bar

[test code for R_ARM_CALL]

  .section .init.text,"ax"
  bar:
          bx      lr

  .section .text,"ax"
  .globl foo
  foo:
          push    {lr}
          bl      bar
          pop     {pc}

If you compile it with ARM multi_v7_defconfig, modpost will show the
symbol name, (unknown).

  WARNING: modpost: vmlinux.o: section mismatch in reference: foo (section: .text) -> (unknown) (section: .init.text)

(You need to use GNU linker instead of LLD to reproduce it.)

Fix the code to make modpost show the correct symbol name.

I imported (with adjustment) sign_extend32() from include/linux/bitops.h.

The '+8' is the compensation for pc-relative instruction. It is
documented in "ELF for the Arm Architecture" [1].

  "If the relocation is pc-relative then compensation for the PC bias
  (the PC value is 8 bytes ahead of the executing instruction in Arm
  state and 4 bytes in Thumb state) must be encoded in the relocation
  by the object producer."

3636eb3cf4 modpost: fix section mismatch message for R_ARM_ABS32
[ Upstream commit b7c63520f6703a25eebb4f8138fed764fcae1c6f ]

addend_arm_rel() processes R_ARM_ABS32 in a wrong way.

Here, test code.

  [test code 1]

    #include <linux/init.h>

    int __initdata foo;
    int get_foo(void) { return foo; }

If you compile it with ARM versatile_defconfig, modpost will show the
symbol name, (unknown).

  WARNING: modpost: vmlinux.o: section mismatch in reference: get_foo (section: .text) -> (unknown) (section: .init.data)

(You need to use GNU linker instead of LLD to reproduce it.)

If you compile it for other architectures, modpost will show the correct
symbol name.

  WARNING: modpost: vmlinux.o: section mismatch in reference: get_foo (section: .text) -> foo (section: .init.data)

For R_ARM_ABS32, addend_arm_rel() sets r->r_addend to a wrong value.

I just mimicked the code in arch/arm/kernel/module.c.

However, there is more difficulty for ARM.

Here, test code.

  [test code 2]

    #include <linux/init.h>

    int __initdata foo;
    int get_foo(void) { return foo; }

    int __initdata bar;
    int get_bar(void) { return bar; }

With this commit applied, modpost will show the following messages
for ARM versatile_defconfig:

  WARNING: modpost: vmlinux.o: section mismatch in reference: get_foo (section: .text) -> foo (section: .init.data)
  WARNING: modpost: vmlinux.o: section mismatch in reference: get_bar (section: .text) -> foo (section: .init.data)

The reference from 'get_bar' to 'foo' seems wrong.

I have no solution for this because it is true in assembly level.

In the following output, relocation at 0x1c is no longer associated
with 'bar'. The two relocation entries point to the same symbol, and
the offset to 'bar' is encoded in the instruction 'r0, [r3, #4]'.

  Disassembly of section .text:

  00000000 <get_foo>:
     0: e59f3004          ldr     r3, [pc, #4]   @ c <get_foo+0xc>
     4: e5930000          ldr     r0, [r3]
     8: e12fff1e          bx      lr
     c: 00000000          .word   0x00000000

  00000010 <get_bar>:
    10: e59f3004          ldr     r3, [pc, #4]   @ 1c <get_bar+0xc>
    14: e5930004          ldr     r0, [r3, #4]
    18: e12fff1e          bx      lr
    1c: 00000000          .word   0x00000000

  Relocation section '.rel.text' at offset 0x244 contains 2 entries:
   Offset Info Type Sym.Value Sym. Name
  0000000c  00000c02 R_ARM_ABS32       00000000   .init.data
  0000001c  00000c02 R_ARM_ABS32       00000000   .init.data

When find_elf_symbol() gets into a situation where relsym->st_name is
zero, there is no guarantee to get the symbol name as written in C.

I am keeping the current logic because it is useful in many architectures,
but the symbol name is not always correct depending on the optimization.
I left some comments in find_tosym().

9a13d7ef2e modpost: fix section mismatch check for exported init/exit sections
commit 28438794aba47a27e922857d27b31b74e8559143 upstream.

Since commit f02e8a6596 ("module: Sort exported symbols"),
EXPORT_SYMBOL* is placed in the individual section ___ksymtab(_gpl)+<sym>
(3 leading underscores instead of 2).

Since then, modpost cannot detect the bad combination of EXPORT_SYMBOL
and __init/__exit.

Fix the .fromsec field.

6c71ef8fc3 modpost: fix undefined behavior of is_arm_mapping_symbol()
[ Upstream commit d6b732666a1bae0df3c3ae06925043bba34502b1 ]

The return value of is_arm_mapping_symbol() is unpredictable when "$"
is passed in.

strchr(3) says:
  The strchr() and strrchr() functions return a pointer to the matched
  character or NULL if the character is not found. The terminating null
  byte is considered part of the string, so that if c is specified as
  '\0', these functions return a pointer to the terminator.

When str[1] is '\0', strchr("axtd", str[1]) is not NULL, and str[2] is
referenced (i.e. buffer overrun).

Test code
---------

  char str1[] = "abc";
  char str2[] = "ab";

  strcpy(str1, "$");
  strcpy(str2, "$");

  printf("test1: %d\n", is_arm_mapping_symbol(str1));
  printf("test2: %d\n", is_arm_mapping_symbol(str2));

Result
------

  test1: 0
  test2: 1

03bd6eaab3 modpost: fix removing numeric suffixes
[ Upstream commit b5beffa20d83c4e15306c991ffd00de0d8628338 ]

With the `-z unique-symbol` linker flag or any similar mechanism,
it is possible to trigger the following:

ERROR: modpost: "param_set_uint.0" [vmlinux] is a static EXPORT_SYMBOL

The reason is that for now the condition from remove_dot():

if (m && (s[n + m] == '.' || s[n + m] == 0))

which was designed to test if it's a dot or a '\0' after the suffix
is never satisfied.
This is due to that `s[n + m]` always points to the last digit of a
numeric suffix, not on the symbol next to it (from a custom debug
print added to modpost):

param_set_uint.0, s[n + m] is '0', s[n + m + 1] is '\0'

So it's off-by-one and was like that since 2014.

Fix this for the sake of any potential upcoming features, but don't
bother stable-backporting, as it's well hidden -- apart from that
LD flag, it can be triggered only with GCC LTO which never landed
upstream.

c0387536ed vmlinux.lds.h: Create section for protection against instrumentation
From: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de>

commit 6553896666433e7efec589838b400a2a652b3ffa upstream.

Some code pathes, especially the low level entry code, must be protected
against instrumentation for various reasons:

 - Low level entry code can be a fragile beast, especially on x86.

 - With NO_HZ_FULL RCU state needs to be established before using it.

Having a dedicated section for such code allows to validate with tooling
that no unsafe functions are invoked.

Add the .noinstr.text section and the noinstr attribute to mark
functions. noinstr implies notrace. Kprobes will gain a section check
later.

Provide also a set of markers: instrumentation_begin()/end()

These are used to mark code inside a noinstr function which calls
into regular instrumentable text section as safe.

The instrumentation markers are only active when CONFIG_DEBUG_ENTRY is
enabled as the end marker emits a NOP to prevent the compiler from merging
the annotation points. This means the objtool verification requires a
kernel compiled with this option.

Guard noinstr macro in include/linux/compiler_types.h in __KERNEL__

Upstream does not have this problem as many macros were moved by
commit 71391bdd2e9a ("include/linux/compiler_types.h: don't pollute

and just guard the new macro.

061016a669 UPSTREAM: scripts: Fix the inclusion order in modpost
In the process of creating the source file of a module modpost injects a
set of includes that are not required if the compilation unit is
statically built into the kernel.

The order of inclusion of the headers can cause redefinition problems
(e.g.):

   In file included from include/linux/elf.h:5:0,
                    from include/linux/module.h:18,
                    from crypto/arc4.mod.c:2:
    #define ELF_OSABI  ELFOSABI_LINUX

   In file included from include/linux/elfnote.h:62:0,
                    from include/linux/build-salt.h:4,
                    from crypto/arc4.mod.c:1:
   include/uapi/linux/elf.h:363:0: note: this is the location of
   the previous definition
    #define ELF_OSABI ELFOSABI_NONE

The issue was exposed during the development of the series [1].

f28d930810 modpost: skip ELF local symbols during section mismatch check
[ Upstream commit a4d26f1a0958bb1c2b60c6f1e67c6f5d43e2647b ]

During development of a serial console driver with a gcc 8.2.0
toolchain for RISC-V, the following modpost warning appeared:

----
WARNING: vmlinux.o(.data+0x19b10): Section mismatch in reference from the variable .LANCHOR1 to the function .init.text:sifive_serial_console_setup()
The variable .LANCHOR1 references
the function __init sifive_serial_console_setup()
If the reference is valid then annotate the
variable with __init* or __refdata (see linux/init.h) or name the variable:
*_template, *_timer, *_sht, *_ops, *_probe, *_probe_one, *_console
----

".LANCHOR1" is an ELF local symbol, automatically created by gcc's section
anchor generation code:

https://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gccint/Anchored-Addresses.html

https://gcc.gnu.org/git/?p=gcc.git;a=blob;f=gcc/varasm.c;h=cd9591a45617464946dcf9a126dde277d9de9804;hb=9fb89fa845c1b2e0a18d85ada0b077c84508ab78#l7473

This was verified by compiling the kernel with -fno-section-anchors
and observing that the ".LANCHOR1" ELF local symbol disappeared, and
modpost no longer warned about the section mismatch. The serial
driver code idiom triggering the warning is standard Linux serial
driver practice that has a specific whitelist inclusion in modpost.c.

I'm neither a modpost nor an ELF expert, but naively, it doesn't seem
useful for modpost to report section mismatch warnings caused by ELF
local symbols by default. Local symbols have compiler-generated
names, and thus bypass modpost's whitelisting algorithm, which relies
on the presence of a non-autogenerated symbol name. This increases
the likelihood that false positive warnings will be generated (as in
the above case).

Thus, disable section mismatch reporting on ELF local symbols. The
rationale here is similar to that of commit 2e3a10a155 ("ARM: avoid
ARM binutils leaking ELF local symbols") and of similar code already
present in modpost.c:

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/tree/scripts/mod/modpost.c?h=v4.19-rc4&id=7876320f88802b22d4e2daf7eb027dd14175a0f8#n1256

This third version of the patch implements a suggestion from Masahiro
Yamada <yamada.masahiro@socionext.com> to restructure the code as an
additional pattern matching step inside secref_whitelist(), and
further improves the patch description.

fb0e5d877b ANDROID: modpost: add an exception for CFI stubs
When CONFIG_CFI_CLANG is enabled, LLVM renames all address taken
functions by appending a .cfi postfix to their names, and creates
function stubs with the original names. The compiler always injects
these stubs to the text section, even if the function itself is
placed into init or exit sections, which creates modpost warnings.
This commit adds a modpost exception for CFI stubs to prevent the
warnings.

0e0752ebd2 ANDROID: kbuild: add support for clang LTO
This change adds the configuration option CONFIG_LTO_CLANG, and
build system support for clang's Link Time Optimization (LTO). In
preparation for LTO support for other compilers, potentially common
parts of the changes are gated behind CONFIG_LTO instead.

With -flto, instead of object files, clang produces LLVM bitcode,
which is compiled into a native object at link time, allowing the
final binary to be optimized globally. For more details, see:

  https://llvm.org/docs/LinkTimeOptimization.html

While the kernel normally uses GNU ld for linking, LLVM supports LTO
only with lld or GNU gold linkers. This patch set assumes lld will
be used.

[ Upstream commit ec91e78d378cc5d4b43805a1227d8e04e5dfa17d ]

Commit e49ce14150 ("modpost: use linker section to generate table.")
was not so cool as we had expected first; it ended up with ugly section
hacks when commit dd2a3acaec ("mod/file2alias: make modpost compile
on darwin again") came in.

Given a certain degree of unknowledge about the link stage of host
programs, I really want to see simple, stupid table lookup so that
this works in the same way regardless of the underlying executable
format.

aa7f29f870 kbuild: modversions: Fix relative CRC byte order interpretation
commit 54a7151b1496cddbb7a83546b7998103e98edc88 upstream.

Fix commit 56067812d5 ("kbuild: modversions: add infrastructure for
emitting relative CRCs") where CRCs are interpreted in host byte order
rather than proper kernel byte order. The bug is conditional on
CONFIG_MODULE_REL_CRCS.

For example, when loading a BE module into a BE kernel compiled with a LE
system, the error "disagrees about version of symbol module_layout" is
produced. A message such as "Found checksum D7FA6856 vs module 5668FAD7"
will be given with debug enabled, which indicates an obvious endian
problem within __kcrctab within the kernel image.

The general solution is to use the macro TO_NATIVE, as is done in
similar cases throughout modpost.c. With this correction it has been
verified that a BE kernel compiled with a LE system accepts BE modules.

This change has also been verified with a LE kernel compiled with a LE
system, in which case TO_NATIVE returns its value unmodified since the
byte orders match. This is by far the common case.

[ Upstream commit 5818c683a619c534c113e1f66d24f636defc29bc ]

If an ARM mapping symbol shares an address with a valid symbol,
find_elf_symbol can currently return the mapping symbol instead, as the
symbol is not validated. This can result in confusing warnings:

  WARNING: vmlinux.o(.text+0x18f4028): Section mismatch in reference
  from the function set_reset_devices() to the variable .init.text:$x.0

9afb719e70 kbuild: Add build salt to the kernel and modules
In Fedora, the debug information is packaged separately (foo-debuginfo) and
can be installed separately. There's been a long standing issue where only
one version of a debuginfo info package can be installed at a time. There's
been an effort for Fedora for parallel debuginfo to rectify this problem.

Part of the requirement to allow parallel debuginfo to work is that build ids
are unique between builds. The existing upstream rpm implementation ensures
this by re-calculating the build-id using the version and release as a
seed. This doesn't work 100% for the kernel because of the vDSO which is
its own binary and doesn't get updated when embedded.

Fix this by adding some data in an ELF note for both the kernel and modules.
The data is controlled via a Kconfig option so distributions can set it
to an appropriate value to ensure uniqueness between builds.

caf7501a1b module/retpoline: Warn about missing retpoline in module
There's a risk that a kernel which has full retpoline mitigations becomes
vulnerable when a module gets loaded that hasn't been compiled with the
right compiler or the right option.

To enable detection of that mismatch at module load time, add a module info
string "retpoline" at build time when the module was compiled with
retpoline support. This only covers compiled C source, but assembler source
or prebuilt object files are not checked.

If a retpoline enabled kernel detects a non retpoline protected module at
load time, print a warning and report it in the sysfs vulnerability file.

ba1029c9cb modpost: detect modules without a MODULE_LICENSE
Partially revert commit 2fa3656829 ("kbuild: soften MODULE_LICENSE
check") so that modpost detects modules that do not have a
MODULE_LICENSE.

Sam's commit also changed the fatal error to a warning, which I am
leaving as is.

This gives advance notice of when a module has no license and will taint
the kernel if the module is loaded.

This produces the following warnings on x86_64 allmodconfig:

b24413180f License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.

By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.

Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.

This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.

How this work was done:

Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
 - file had no licensing information it it.
 - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
 - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,

Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.

The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.

The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
 - Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
 - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
   lines of source
 - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
   lines).

All documentation files were explicitly excluded.

The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.

 - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
   considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
   COPYING file license applied.

   For non */uapi/* files that summary was:

   SPDX license identifier                            # files
   ---------------------------------------------------|-------
   GPL-2.0                                              11139

   and resulted in the first patch in this series.

   If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH
   Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was:

   SPDX license identifier                            # files
   ---------------------------------------------------|-------
   GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note                        930

   and resulted in the second patch in this series.

 - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one
   of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if
   any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in
   it (per prior point). Results summary:

   SPDX license identifier                            # files
   ---------------------------------------------------|------
   GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note                       270
   GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note                      169
   ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause)    21
   ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause)    17
   LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note                      15
   GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note                       14
   ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause)    5
   LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note                       4
   LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note                        3
   ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT)              3
   ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT)             1

   and that resulted in the third patch in this series.

 - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
   the concluded license(s).

 - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
   license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
   licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.

 - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
   resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
   which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).

 - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
   confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

 - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
   the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
   in time.

In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.

Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.

In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.

Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
 - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
   license ids and scores
 - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
   files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
 - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
   was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
   SPDX license was correct

This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.

These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.
